About Us

The Florida Model United Nations was formed in 2006 to promote Model United Nations as a co-curricular program promoting international education. The conference is open to any college or university with a formal Model UN program or with an interest in furthering international education.

Florida Model UN emphasis is to support and encourage the development of Model UN on college campuses.

Participating in Model UN is easy, but it does take preparation.

Here is a short overview of the program:

Pre Conference

Colleges register and select countries to represent.

(Note: Country assignments are at the discretion of the FMUN staff)

Each Country has seats in selected committees at FMUN.

Students will research their respective country and position on topics.

Committees each have a background guide defining the topics that will be discussed.

Students should use the background guides to prepare for debate during committee sessions.

Delegates should review the rules of procedure that will be used during committee sessions.

At the Conference

Students represent their selected country in their assigned committee.

The committees are chaired by directors and governed by the rules and procedure of FMUN.

Countries work together to write and pass resolutions that solve the issue on the floor of the committee.

While this is only a short overview of the Model UN process, it is a snapshot of what occurs prior to and during a Model UN conference.
